Signage Permit Support in Dubai
Need a sign board or advertising permit in Dubai? Al Burooj prepares the signage drawings and submits the application on your behalf where the route allows it. Share your site, sign size and location, and we will tell you which approvals apply. The authority makes the final decision.

Permit support: first identify the sign and its approval route
A sign on a shop fascia, a billboard on a building, a freestanding display and road-related works do not automatically use the same approval route. The site owner, landlord, developer or free-zone operator may set sign criteria; public-authority requirements depend on the location and proposal. A customer-approved design is not an official permission. Check the responsible party and required sign-offs before fixing a fabrication date.
Building, land and special-area signs
Dubai Municipality’s official service directory lists separate services for advertising on building façades and rooftops, on land, and for signboards in historical areas. Those categories do not mean every ordinary shop sign follows the same process. Use the service description to identify the likely route, then verify eligibility, current documents and conditions with the authority and property owner for the particular address.
Check the current route rather than relying on an old permit checklist. Dubai Municipality announced in August 2026 that permits for construction of advertising structures on building rooftops or vacant plots were integrated into a relevant modification service. For a site within Dubai Development Authority’s jurisdiction, its advertising-permit service sets out a separate route and document list. Neither route should be assumed for every Dubai address; confirm the site’s authority and current submission requirements first.
Installation affecting public space
Access can create a different question from the sign itself. If fitting work needs to occupy a footpath, parking bay or other right-of-way area, review RTA’s official right-of-way permit service with the installer. RTA says that service can cover work such as fixing advertisements, but applicability depends on the works and location. Never assume a sign approval also covers road-space occupation, or vice versa.
Prepare a site-specific brief
1. Record the real location
Share the full address and emirate, building or unit identifier, clear wide and close photographs, proposed sign position and approximate dimensions. Include any lease, landlord, developer or free-zone signage rules already supplied to you. Tell us about existing signage, nearby services, power supply and whether installation needs lifting equipment or work near public space. A site photograph is useful for planning, but not a substitute for verified measurements.
2. Separate concept, submission and construction detail
The proposed visual should show exact business wording, colours, materials, illumination and placement. A permit or landlord submission may ask for drawings or supporting documents; fabrication and any structural or electrical design can be a further scope. Only a suitably qualified party should prepare or certify technical information that the relevant body requires. Ask the quote to name each drawing, review and handover deliverable—not merely “permit included”.
3. Assign the applicant and fee owner
Al Burooj can submit an application on your behalf where the applicable route permits it and the agreed quote includes that work. Before work starts, record who is the formal applicant, who provides ownership or trade documents, who contacts the landlord, who pays official and third-party charges, and who handles comments or resubmissions. Our submission does not mean a permit has been secured; the authority decides whether to approve.
4. Approve the final version after required decisions
Check the exact name, Arabic and English wording, dimensions, location, fixing and finish against any written approval or conditions. If the authority or landlord requests changes, update the proof before releasing artwork to production. Manufacturing or installing too early can mean rework. Signage design and installation should be costed as distinct stages when they are required.
What affects price and timing?
The number and type of drawings, need for a site survey, structural or electrical review, sign complexity, applicant role, revisions and correspondence all affect the scope. Official fees and authority review time are variable and should be checked against the current service rather than copied from an old estimate. Ask for an itemised quote and allow for approval before promising an opening or installation date.

Signage permit questions
Can Al Burooj submit my sign-permit application?
Yes, Al Burooj can submit applications on a client’s behalf where the applicable route permits it and this is included in the agreed scope. We can prepare the agreed drawings and coordinate the submission, but the relevant authority decides whether to approve. The quotation should state the applicant role, documents, fees and response to comments.
Which Dubai authority should I approach?
The site and sign type determine the route. Dubai Municipality announced in August 2026 that construction permits for rooftop or vacant-plot advertising structures were integrated into a modification service. Dubai Development Authority has an advertising-permit service for sites in its jurisdiction. RTA may require a separate right-of-way permit if installation occupies public road space. Check the current route, landlord requirements and applicant role for your exact address before submission.
Does a shopfront sign always need a permit?
Do not assume either way from a generic website page. Requirements can depend on the premises, landlord or development rules, sign dimensions, structure, illumination and location. Ask the owner or operator for written sign criteria and confirm any current public-authority requirement before committing to manufacture.
What should I send for a permit-support quotation?
Send the full site address and emirate, a wide frontage photo, proposed position, sign dimensions, artwork or wording, material and lighting concept, access details, landlord instructions and any previous approvals. If a consultant or property manager is already involved, identify their role. The actual submission checklist must be verified for the applicable service.
Are permit drawings the same as production drawings?
Not necessarily. A submission may need a site elevation, dimensions and proposed placement; fabrication or structural work can require additional technical detail from a suitably qualified professional. The quote should list each drawing or review deliverable separately.
Are authority fees and approval time included?
Not unless the written quotation explicitly includes them. Public charges, third-party fees, review cycles and decision times depend on the applicable service and can change. No submission or installation date should be treated as guaranteed before the authority and site requirements are confirmed.
Should I fabricate the sign before approval?
If approval is required, confirm the approved design and any conditions before committing to fabrication or installation. Changes requested by an authority or landlord after manufacturing can add cost and delay. Agree who is authorised to release the final production file.
Can you help with a sign outside Dubai?
Share the emirate, site address and sign type. Rules and responsible bodies vary across the UAE, so Dubai Municipality or RTA information must not be assumed to apply elsewhere. We will confirm whether drawing, survey or installation support is available for that project.
