Custom dimensional letters for walls and shopfronts

Dimensional lettering uses individual letters or logo shapes with physical thickness, creating depth and shadows on the mounting surface. Flat-cut letters are cut from sheet material, while built-up letters use faces and sides to create a deeper form. The right construction depends on the artwork, viewing distance, finish, wall and whether illumination is required.

For a reception wall, consider how visitors see the logo when entering and when seated. For a shopfront, check the approach angle, available fascia space and surrounding signage. Coordinate interior branding with our reception signs, or explore shopfront signage for the wider frontage.

Letter materials and finishes

Acrylic dimensional letters

Acrylic can be considered for crisp letter shapes, coloured faces and layered logo details. Thickness gives flat-cut letters their depth, while the colour of the wall influences contrast and shadows. Fine strokes and small details may need artwork adjustments so the finished letters remain practical to produce and mount.

Metal letters and logo elements

Metal lettering can create a brushed, polished or painted appearance. Discuss the proposed metal, finish and construction together; a metal-faced letter and a solid metal letter have different build-ups. For related plaques and metal sign panels, see our custom metal signs.

Built-up and illuminated lettering

Built-up letters provide a deeper profile and may accommodate lighting where designed for it. Dimensional does not automatically mean illuminated. If you need visible letter faces after dark, compare channel letter signs; for a glow behind the letters, explore LED backlit signs. Lighting needs a separate brief for power, cable routes, access and the desired effect.

Size, depth and legibility

Start with the available width and the distance from which the sign must be read. Letter height, spacing and stroke width matter as much as depth. A shallow letter can be effective on a well-lit interior wall, while a deeper letter creates stronger side profiles and shadows. Review a scaled layout on a straight-on photograph before approving production.

For Arabic and English layouts, provide approved wording and check the balance, alignment and spacing of both versions. Keep the final artwork in a vector format where available. If the logo needs redrawing or adapting for fabrication, include that in the scope of our signage design service.

Mounting and site conditions

Letters may be mounted close to the surface, spaced off the wall or arranged on a backing panel. The fixing choice depends on the material, weight, letter shape and substrate. Send photographs and identify plasterboard, stone, timber, glass or cladding rather than assuming one fixing method works everywhere. Tell us about drilling restrictions and concealed services.

For exterior lettering, identify exposure, height, access and the proposed mounting surface. Check the material and finish for the actual location. Where illumination is included, agree the electrical scope and access for future maintenance. Coordinate site fitting through our sign installation service and confirm applicable landlord or project approvals before work begins.

From artwork to installed lettering

1. Share your logo and site

Send vector artwork, wall dimensions, front and side photographs, preferred finish and project location. State whether you want non-illuminated letters, face lighting or a halo effect, and include your required date.

2. Agree the construction and layout

Review overall width, letter height, depth, colour, spacing and fixing method. Clarify whether samples, artwork preparation and final measurements are included. Check the mounting surface and any power requirements before fabrication.

3. Approve the production details

Check wording, spelling, logo proportions and the scaled placement proof. Approve the itemised scope, including delivery, removal of existing signage, installation and access equipment where needed.

4. Arrange fitting and care

Agree site access and working hours, then check the finished lettering against the approved layout. Request material-specific cleaning guidance and any documented warranty terms. For an existing sign that needs attention, discuss sign repair and maintenance.

What affects dimensional-lettering prices in Dubai?

Pricing depends on letter count, logo complexity, dimensions, depth, material, finish and mounting method. Lighting, backing panels, artwork preparation, difficult access and removal of old signage can add to the scope. A small interior wordmark and a large illuminated shopfront require different fabrication and installation work. Send artwork and photos for a project-specific quotation; production timing is confirmed after the details and material availability are agreed.

Dimensional lettering questions

What is the difference between flat-cut and built-up letters?

Flat-cut letters take their depth from the thickness of the sheet material. Built-up letters use faces and sides to create a deeper form. The choice depends on size, finish, mounting and whether lighting is included.

Can dimensional letters be illuminated?

Some constructions can include face lighting or backlighting. The letter shape and depth must suit the lighting components, and the site needs an agreed power and cable route. Specify lighting at the quotation stage.

Can you reproduce an existing logo?

Provide the approved vector logo and brand colours for review. Small details, thin strokes or gradients may need an agreed production treatment. Any artwork changes should be approved before fabrication.

Can letters be installed without a visible backing board?

Individual mounting may be possible where the letters and wall can support suitable fixings. A backing panel may be more appropriate for some surfaces or cable arrangements. Send photos so the options can be assessed.

Are dimensional letters suitable outdoors?

They can be specified for exterior use, but material, finish, supports and any lighting must suit the location. Include exposure, installation height and facade details in your enquiry.

What information do you need for a quotation?

Send artwork, approximate overall dimensions, preferred material and finish, lighting requirements, wall photos, location and required date. Identify installation or removal work so the quote covers the full scope.
