CHOOSE YOUR SOLUTION

Channel letters: front-lit, halo-lit or a lightbox?

Front-lit letters send light through the letter faces. The face colour and artwork shape help define the visible illuminated message.

Halo-lit letters, also called reverse-lit letters, direct light towards the mounting surface behind them. The wall colour, texture and mounting arrangement affect the appearance of the glow.

A lightbox illuminates a graphic face within a cabinet rather than treating each letter as a separate element. It can suit a combined logo and message; it is not the same as a programmable digital screen.

Material affects the result too. A proposed front-lit letter may use an acrylic face with formed metal sides, while a halo-lit build needs a face and backing arrangement that directs light towards the wall. Ask to see the face, return and finish specified for your logo, as well as how the sign will look when switched off.

Check the unlit appearance as well as the glow

Your sign still needs to work when its lights are off. Review the letter finish, contrast, spacing and background in daylight, then discuss the intended illuminated colour and effect. A night-time visual is a design aid, not a guarantee of the result on every wall.

Start with the location, not just the lighting style

For a complete exterior installation, see building and storefront signs. For indoor logos and identification, see reception and interior signs. Include the setting in your enquiry so the material, mounting and electrical scope can be reviewed together.

Explore illuminated signage and lettering

Some of these services overlap: a channel letter can also be a 3D illuminated letter. Use the options to describe the result you want, then agree one clear specification rather than ordering by the category name alone.

Channel letter signs

Explore individually formed letters and logos for a business name or brand mark. Discuss face illumination, halo illumination or a proposed combined effect. Letter shape, stroke width and overall size need review before the lighting layout is confirmed. Compare the 3D Metal Channel Letters product for a formed-letter option.

lightboxes & led displays in dubai

Lightboxes & LED displays

Tell us whether you need a fixed illuminated graphic or a digital display that changes content. A lightbox and an electronic screen have different hardware, power, controls and approval requirements. Their supply and installation scope should not be treated as interchangeable. For a fixed graphic format, see the Aluminium Frame Slim Light Box product.

3d signs & lettering in dubai

3D signs & lettering

Use raised lettering to give a logo or name physical depth. Three-dimensional does not automatically mean illuminated: compare unlit and lit options around the available space, finish and background. Specify the intended effect when requesting a quote.

3D illuminated letters

Combine dimensional construction with a defined lighting treatment. Share the logo artwork, approximate height and viewing distance so fine details and narrow strokes can be assessed. Check the material, finish, lighting direction and support arrangement together. Compare the Back and Front Lit Sign product for a proposed combined lighting effect.

led backlit signs in dubai

LED backlit signs

Discuss a lit background effect for letters, logos or a proposed sign construction. Show the wall finish and nearby lighting. Ask for the actual electrical specification and operating assumptions rather than relying on a general energy-saving claim. The Back Lit Sign product is one option to review against the wall and mounting detail.

neon-style signs in dubai

Neon-style signs

Create a line-based wordmark or decorative message for a suitable setting. Check whether the proposed construction uses LED neon-style lighting or traditional glass neon; these are different systems. State indoor or outdoor use, mounting position and the required controls. See the Custom Neon Sign product as a format to discuss, then confirm the lighting system in the quote.

Send a sign brief that includes the site

A logo alone cannot establish the full installation cost or lighting result. Send a straight-on photo and a wider view showing the sign position, nearby lighting and access. Include an evening photo if available.

  • Artwork: provide the logo, approved wording, brand colours and any Arabic and English versions.
  • Size and position: give the available sign area, approximate letter height, installation height and viewing direction.
  • Background: identify the wall or fascia material, its colour and condition, with details from the property team if needed.
  • Lighting: describe face-lit, halo-lit or another preferred effect and the expected operating hours.
  • Power and access: share what is known about the power location and access for installation and future servicing.
  • Scope and schedule: flag an existing sign to remove, landlord requirements, target date and any permit or electrical work to coordinate.

Resolve artwork details before fabrication

Fine logo details, tight spacing and very narrow strokes may need adjustment for the selected construction. Review a dimensioned layout showing letter sizes, spacing, depth and the mounting arrangement. Any proposed artwork change should be approved rather than silently altering your brand mark.

For Arabic and English signs, check both language versions together, including letter forms, dots, spacing and the visual balance between lines. Supply approved wording; confirm separately whether translation or language checking is included. Review the unlit finish and the intended lit appearance before production.

Plan mounting, power and servicing together

Letters may be mounted individually or on an agreed backing panel or support. Compare the visible appearance with the building’s fixing restrictions, cable routing and service access. The suitability of the supporting surface and fixing method requires a project-specific assessment, not a choice based only on a photograph.

Agree who is responsible for the building-side electrical supply, sign components, controls and final connection. Electrical design and connection should be handled by appropriately qualified personnel under the applicable site requirements. This page is not installation or wiring instructions.

Identify how the power supplies and lighting components can be reached for inspection or replacement. For exterior use, ask for the environmental suitability of the complete proposed system; a rating on one component does not establish the suitability of the whole sign. Keep maintenance access in the quotation, especially for signs installed at height.

Approvals before committing to installation

Ask the landlord, building manager or relevant authority what applies to the proposed position, sign type and lighting. Mada Media’s building advertising services distinguish several display categories, including building names, projecting signs and electronic screens. The appropriate route depends on the actual project.

For the preparation and scope questions, see our signage plans and permits service. Check who supplies drawings, submits any application and pays associated charges. Do not assume artwork approval is installation permission or that a static illuminated sign and a digital advertising screen follow identical requirements. Dates should allow for any required property and authority decisions.

Compare the complete sign cost and handover scope

Price depends on the number and size of letters, logo complexity, materials, finish, lighting system, backing or supports and installation access. Removal of an old sign, building repairs, power provision, access equipment and approval work may be separate items. Ask for a quotation that makes these boundaries clear.

For running costs, request the proposed system’s electrical load and intended operating schedule. Do not assume a fixed saving simply because the sign uses LEDs. If a warranty is offered, clarify the coverage for fabrication, finishes, lighting, power supplies and site labour, along with exclusions and service access.

At handover, review the approved layout, visible finish, lighting consistency and agreed controls, and obtain the care and service information. Production and installation timing is confirmed against the specification and site arrangements. UAE enquiries are welcome; work outside Dubai is agreed per project.

Channel letter and illuminated signage questions

Front-lit letters illuminate through their faces. Halo-lit or reverse-lit letters direct light onto the surface behind them. The choice changes the visible effect; the background, spacing, surrounding light and mounting arrangement also influence the result.

No. Three-dimensional lettering describes the raised form, not the presence of lighting. Specify whether you want unlit, face-lit, halo-lit or another proposed treatment, and review the construction and power requirements before approving the quote.

No. A lightbox illuminates a fixed graphic face. A digital LED screen displays electronically controlled content and needs a different hardware, control and operating plan. Clarify which one you need and confirm the relevant site and approval requirements.

Yes, both can be included in the proposed layout. Provide approved text and check letter forms, dots, spacing and the balance between languages. Fine details may need construction review, and any artwork adjustment or translation scope should be agreed before production.

No. Wall colour, texture, nearby lighting and the distance between the letters and background affect the visible glow. Share the actual finish and site photos, then agree an appropriate preview or sample approach if the effect is critical.

Only when those tasks are expressly included. Check responsibility for the building-side supply, sign installation, electrical connection, controls, approval submissions and fees. A supplied sign is not automatically a complete electrical or permitting service.

Ask for the proposed system’s electrical load, controls and expected operating hours. Consumption varies with the size, components and operating schedule. LED lighting alone does not establish a particular running cost or percentage saving.

Cost depends on letter size and quantity, logo detail, materials, finishes, lighting, supports and site access. Send the artwork, dimensions and location photos for an itemised quote. Identify any existing-sign removal, electrical work, approval tasks or access equipment separately.
